A four-car collision in Manhattan early Saturday morning left a woman dead and one car ablaze, police and fire officials said.

The wreck happened in the vicinity of Laight Street and West Street, near the Holland Tunnel, just before 7:45 a.m. Saturday. Video from the scene shows a trail of debris almost a block long and severe damage to multiple vehicles including an SUV and a sedan.

Witnesses told police a 37-year-old man driving a black Audi was swerving in and out of traffic at a high speed when he hit a Honda CRV.

The Honda overturned and caught fire, and the 68-year-old woman driving the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

A 28-year-old man driving a pickup truck involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.

A 68-year-old woman driving a Hyundai was also taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to police.

The Audi driver tried to flee the scene on foot, but was arrested. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, and charges against him are pending, police said.

Police didn't immediately release the name of the victim.
