Max Branning’s life has been thrown into absolute chaos in EastEnders this Christmas Day as his daughters Lauren and Abi could well be dead after a terrible fall from the Queen Vic roof. The siblings were on the roof to try and talk a despairing Max down from the edge but the slipped on the wet ground and were sent plunging to the ground below.
Whether or not they die is something that we can’t reveal but Jake Wood, who plays Max, reckons that even though Max is at his lowest ever point, this doesn’t need to be the end for him. He pondered: ‘I think there’s always lots of options for him.
I never thought, in the whole time we played this story, that Max was irredeemable. Max is a very complicated character, as we’ve seen with the self harming story that has run parallel to this. There’s a lot going on with Max.
‘Sometimes a lot of the things he does, he does them the wrong way. But if you look back at why he’s doing them, it’s rooted in something that’s very real. He’s very hurt by what’s happened to him. It’s not exactly explaining it away, but to my mind, it’s understandable why he’s doing these things. So I’ve never felt he’s gone past the point of no return.
‘That decision is ultimately out of my hands. So some of that might be down to whether the audience forgive him or not, and it’ll be down to the writers.’
While max’s story has the potential to go on, fans are worried that this is the end for Lauren and Abi – and with Jacqueline Jossa and Lorna Fitzgerald leaving, it’s not looking good!
EastEnders continues on Boxing day at 7:30pm on BBC One.
