No EastEnders return for Alfie Moon as Shane Richie 'declines offer'

EastEnders fans hoping for a return for Alfie Moon are in for a disappointment as Shane Richie has claimed that he recently declined an offer from the show to return. While in many interviews between the end of Redwater and now, Shane has made it clear that he would be open to a return, it seems that the time is not quite right yet.

Viewers had assumed that Alfie would follow his wife Kat when Jessie Wallace reprises her role in coming weeks. Jessie is already back filming alongside Laila Morse as Mo Harris and Gillian Wright as Jean Slater.

Redwater left both Kat and Alfie’s fates hanging in the balance as Kat almost drowned and Alfie went in for an operation but it has been widely accepted since that the characters are alive.

But Shane told The Sun: ‘I’m in a fortunate position where I can pick and choose what I want to do and EastEnders at the moment I said no to it. I just need to take a break from television and a little break away from showbiz.

‘Trust me, it’s not because I’ve got loads of money because that is far from the truth. But I just need to pick and choose.’

EastEnders still seem to be holding the door open for Shane when he wants to revisit Alfie, however. An insider shared: ‘Alfie’s still a much-loved character on the Square and bosses will always keep the door open. Producers know that the filming schedules can be exhausting and they’ll always be willing to wait until he’s ready.’

Well that’s good news – maybe next year?

It was recently confirmed that Shane would be starring in four episodes of the next series of Benidorm.
