It was a balshy move, but Ramz gave it a good go – asking Eminem to step aside and let him take number one.
While the cheeky request didn’t quite work, he lost out on the top spot to Drake’s God’s Plan, the singer from South London managed to overtake Eminem in this week’s charts, which is pretty damn good when battling a big wig like him.
And Ramz, 20, is absolutely chuffed to bits – he got seriously excited when his track Barking crept up to number four in the charts, but number two has absolutely blown his mind – especially as he’s now overtaken Ed sheeran.
‘I’m feeling kind of good to be honest,’ he said in an exclusive chat with Metro.co.uk. ‘The support has been amazing.’
He added that the success has caught him so off guard he’s not even prepared.
‘I might throw a party. I messaged Eminem and said yo let me get this but I got no reply. He didn’t need this [number one],’ he joked.
But still, he is just trying to take it all in: ‘I feel overwhelmed. It’s a lot to take in. It’s just something special, history being made.
He added: ‘It’s been really spontaneous, it’s something I haven’t expected. The support – it’s been a good feeling. If people didn’t know before they must know now that I’m in the scene.’
It’s his super catchy track Barking that has got people talking, which is all about a ‘real encounter with a girl from Barking.’
This week's singles chart
1 GOD’S PLAN, DRAKE
2 BARKING, RAMZ
3 RIVER, EMINEM FT ED SHEERAN
4 IDGAF, DUA LIPA
5 TIP TOE, JASON DERULO
It was originally released in December and hit the charts at number 41, but has steadily climbed since then thanks to Ramz’s balshy nature and his Twitter campaign – #RamzFor1.
Ramz, real name Ramone Rochester, managed to drum up support from the likes of Fuse ODG in his bid to hit the top spot.
And now he’s bagged himself a gig at wireless later this year, so while that number one was elusive, good things are happening for this lad.
I’m lost for words, I will be at wireless this year, last year I got myself tickets for Saturday to watch my brother Dave perform and now this year I’m going to perform on the same stage this is something I never thought I would do! pic.twitter.com/f83BFHubpb

Not bad going for a guy singing about a London suburb.
