UFC legend Conor McGregor claimed he tried to fight at UFC 222, but was denied.
There have been questions about when the Irish-born star will fight again, and UFC president Dana White has said he will pull his title belt over the delay in his fighting return.
However, McGregor told a very different story on Instagram when he posted:
I am fighting again. Period.
I am the best at this.
I put my name forward to step in at UFC 222 to face Frankie Edgar when Max Holloway pulled out, but I was told there wasn’t enough time to generate the money that the UFC would need.
I was excited about bouncing in last minute and taking out the final featherweight, without all the rest of the stuff that comes with this game. Please respect the insane amount of work outside the fight game that I have put in.
On top of the fighting.
I am here.
It is on them to come and get me. Because I am here.
The Champ Champ
Well, this sure does make things interesting. I don’t doubt that McGregor is telling the truth, and that White couldn’t hook the fight up fast enough. UFC 222 is March 3, which certainly doesn’t leave a ton of time to get everything setup for a fight.
Plus, White and the UFC are going to want to handle McGregor’s return carefully. There needs to be plenty of hype and media attention. There should probably be a couple weeks of buildup to the event, not a couple weeks. That would give the fans what they want or do the fight proper justice.
This does signal to me that McGregor is very close to returning, and that should make fighting fans everywhere pumped.
