Liam Gallagher may just have saved the day after stepping in last minute to lead the Manchester bombing tribute at the BRITs tonight.

Pop singer Ariana Grande, whose concert was targeted by a terrorist bombing last year, was initially lined up for the bill but pulled out last minute.

The former Oasis rocker is now set to pay tribute to the family and friends affected by the tragic incident with an emotional performance already tipped to be the ‘biggest talking point of the night.’

An inside source explained to The Mirror: ‘Liam has saved the day by stepping in at the last minute. It’s a perfect choice. It’s going to be the moment of the evening.’

On 22 May 2017, 22 people were killed and 500 were injured after a suspected terrorist let off a bomb at the Manchester Arena, following an Ariana Grande concert. Amongst the dead were children and teenagers.

The 45-year-old is said to be playing his song Live Forever again, after performing it at the Manchester One Love concert with Coldplay back in June 2017 – but the star may not be allowed to play live.

Earlier this month, the rocker tweeted: ‘So the Brit awards have ballooned it again. All I wanted to do was play LIVE but there too scared.’

BRIT bosses had originally planned a surprise tear-jerking performance at the awards from Ariana, before the 24-year-old pulled out less than 24 hours before the show.

Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the Brit Awards, said: ‘I can confirm we did have Ariana Grande lined up to make a performance tonight.

‘Unfortunately she was not able to travel on doctor’s orders, she’s not well.

‘I can say that there will be something tonight, I can’t say any more than that but people should tune in and watch.

‘And hopefully it will be a fitting remembrance and recognition of what happened, which was so terrible.’

The Into You singer shared with fans that she was ‘broken’ after the attack at her concert adding: ‘From the bottom of my heart, I am so, so sorry. I don’t have words.’

The BRIT Awards 2018 airs tonight (February 21) from 8pm.
