Evil rapist Josh looks set to target another Coronation Street local as he seeks to cover up his deplorable attack on David Platt, actor Ryan Clayton has warned. Worried that David will expose the devastating assault, Josh will try and woo a female character – but as he works his charm, will David be able to cope with his attacker continuing to be a constant presence on the Street?

Fans are set to be left horrified when the evil newcomer drugs and rapes David during a night out and the aftermath of the story will focus heavily on the impact on David’s mental health.

As Josh plays down what happened, David is left in turmoil while the amiable Josh continues to behave as if nothing has happened. And when he grows close to someone else on the Street, will David find the strength to speak out?

Fans have already seen him share sparks with Alya Nazir – so could she be the planned object of his false affections?

Speaking about what’s ahead, Ryan told ‘He’s not going anywhere soon – he is still training people on the street for the boxing event. And in order to protect himself, he will maybe turn his charms on one of the ladies on the street so he’s a dangerous person to be around, in a very manipulative way.

‘He’s still there and because David hasn’t told anybody, he’s no reason to go. And he’s realised that David isn’t going to tell anybody, so there’s this whole thing of how that then affects David, and there are consequences along the line, all the way.’

He added: ‘David has an awareness of what has happened, so when he tackles him, this guy isn’t going to just disappear, he’s going to hold his ground. The confidence that you see now, which is the affable cheeky chap then turns into the manipulation.

‘David’s saying “I know what you did” and he’s denying it – that’s why it’s very hard for David and that’s when it becomes a sort of men’s mental health story, which is David can’t deal with what he’s internalising and this guy is still there and charming everybody.’

As part of the story, Sean Wilson will reprise his role as David’s dad Martin – but will he be the one that David confides in? Fans will have to wait and see where it goes from here but with Corrie confirming that the story will run into summer, it is going to be a slow burner – and it’s going to be a very traumatic time for David.
