Cube Entertainment has announced that EDawn will go on leave from K-pop boy band Pentagon, launching another backlash against the agency.
EDawn has not been seen in any Pentagon activities following the revelation of his romantic relationship with fellow Cube artist HyunA.
Last 8 August, the agency announced that EDawn would not be participating in Pentagons fan club event on 11 August and Japanese promotions. He was not also seen at KCON LA.
In its latest action, Cube said EDawn and Yan An will be taking a leave from the band.
Member EDawn will temporarily halt his career while Yan An plans to make intensive treatment and sufficient rest his top priority, ahead of his (music) career, due to health reasons, it said, according to Yonhap News.
Cube decided to put EDawn on hiatus despite that there is a massive petition from foreign fans to keep him in the boy band.
”Fans” are demanding that EDawn is removed from Pentagon. Lets sign this petition to make sure he stays in pentagon!! He doesnt deserve all this hate and he shouldnt be treated like this. If EDawn is happy with Hyuna, then we should all be happy for them, read the petition, which now has more than 86,000 signatures.
Korean netizens are outraged by Cubes decision.
This is why Cube is known for abusing their power… Hes basically getting kicked out for dating. So dirty of Cube, one top-voted comment read, according to Netizen Buzz.
One netizen said: Hes getting kicked out, what reason is needed, while another posted: Cube cant mess with Hyuna so theyre taking it out on him.
Dating is natural at that age, why cant he work? He hasnt committed a crime worthy of death. Being honest is a crime now, I guess. He seemed like a hard worker on stage too, one netizen wrote.
Other comments included: Is Cube trying to make him regret dating Hyuna? It also feels like a warning to Hyuna too and, Hyuna is Cubes princess so she can do whatever she want but her boyfriend is a nobody so hes immediately kicked from the team… Well, he should be worried about how hes going to put food on the table now… might as well go serve in the army while he has time.
