Theres an epic Easter egg paying homage to the first on-screen Joker, Cesar Romero, in Heath Ledgers performance as the Crown Prince of Crime (Picture: DC)

We all love an Easter egg, whether its references to Game of Thrones in Altered Carbon to Deadpool namechecking DC in his second outing.

Fans have come to expect nods to anything and everything in outing on both the big and small screens.

However, it seems that many of us – except those die-hard Batman buffs – have all been missing one HUGE Easter egg from one of the BIGGEST comic book films of all time, Christopher Nolans The Dark Knight.

Starring Christian Bale as Batman and Heath Ledger in an iconic and career-defining role as The Joker, the film has gone down in the annals of movie history.

If youre not a complete Batman buff you might miss the nod to the 1966 episode The Jokers Wild in the first scene of Christopher Nolans The Dark Knight (Picture: DC)

But what have we all been missing? The Jokers introduction to us is actually an Easter egg from the original Batman TV shot starring Cesar Romero as the Clown Prince of Crime.

It exactly mirrors the mask that Romeros Joker uses in the 1966 episode The Joker Is Wild (season one, episode five) from Batman the TV series.

The mask used by The Joker in the bank heist is the spitting image of the one worn by Romero as his own version of the villain goes in disguise on TV as he battles Adam Wests Batman (Picture: DC)

Reddit user Christianhbk shared a handy frame-by-frame picture of the Jokers wearing their masks on the site, much to the delight of many.

What can we say? Christopher and Jonathan Nolan delved deep into the mythology of the Dark Knight for all three of their films.
