The first movie poster of Hellboy has been released, ahead of the new film next year, and it is legendary AF.

Their words, not ours. But our words, too.

David Harbour, who was cast as Big Red last year, also gave fans the first glimpse of the superhero on Instagram.

If youre coming to @newyorkcomiccon Im excited to give ya a few minutes of hell @hellboymovie @lionsgate @entertainmentweekly #hellboy, the Stranger Things star captioned the shot.

The film will be directed by Neil Marshall, and also stars Mila Jovovich, Brian Gleeson and Ian McShane.

While there is a lot to take in with the shot – released by Entertainment Weekly – it gives us all a huge insight into just how dark the character will go in the upcoming movie, sporting demon huge horns in place of his trademark stumps.

Hellboy usually likes to keep them trimmed down, in a bid to keep his bad side in check – but it looks like hes been forced to tap into his demonic nature in a bid to defeat the Blood Queen, aka Mila Jovovich.

And we honestly cant wait.

But it doesnt sound completely dark as David, 43, hinted we could see a happier side of Red, and even some scenes with him singing.

Yes, seriously.

Speaking to MTV, he explained: I dont know if you know this, but Im also a singer, or at least there was a little bit of crooning that Hellboy may or may not do in the film.

He also revealed that, while working on the film was the hardest thing hes done, it we can also expect some beautiful stuff.

It was the hardest job Ive ever done, he continued. The action that Im doing in the movie, the rolling around on the ground and punching – things that a 40-year-old man should not be doing – and on top of that, the tremendous amount of prosthetics and makeup, but at the end of the day we would shoot some pretty beautiful stuff.

David took over the role from Ron Perlman – who starred as Hellboy for five films, including two animated features.

But he explained that, despite Ron and former director Guillermo del Toro previously wanting to return to the franchise, there are no hard feelings between anyone.

I mean, it was not a great situation. They did two – him and Guillermo del Toro – and they, I think, wanted to make their third, but I think a lot of issues came up, he explained to the WTF podcast.

I think budgets were too big, I think that they took a lot of time, they waited too long, so I think they wanted to do something else, they wanted to do something different with it.

[The filmmakers] came to me and it was a very different concept, a very different idea, and there was initially some bluster around it and I think everybody kind of got it and Ron got it.

He came and we had dinner and he was just really cool.

Hellboy will be released in cinemas on 12 April, 2019.
