Its not unusual for a teenager to harbour a crush on his teacher but in Emmerdale, Jacob Gallagher could soon find himself at risk as there are warning signs that Maya Stepney is not everything that she seems.
Since David Metcalfe entered a relationship with Maya, there have been veiled warnings made about the kind of woman she is by her ex husband Dr Cavanagh and her former stepdaughter Leanna but for now, fans remain unsure of what to make of the character.
As Jacob strives to defend Maya in upcoming episodes, with the storyline getting properly underway tonight, Jessie Grant soon has reason to doubt her staff members conduct. With Maya having offered Noah a lift, she is faced with an official warning for breaching safeguarding guidelines.
There is a debate over whether Maya was just acting as a caring neighbour or whether this act of overstepping boundaries is an alarm bell but when Jacob confronts Noah over the situation, he is furious and a fight breaks out.
With Jacob fighting Mayas corner, the scrap soon reaches the attention of Jessie which can only make things worse for Maya, especially when Leanna stirs trouble and says the lads were fighting over the teacher.
While Maya is grateful to Jacob for defending her, is he at risk from the woman living under his roof. There is no doubt that he is falling for her but will Maya pick up on this and try to put a stop to it or could she even encourage it or act upon it?
Speaking about her alter egos mystery, Louisa Clein recently hinted: There is a lot still to explore with this character. Maya hints later on down the line that she has slightly dysfunctional parents, or certainly a mother figure that is lacking, which has created more of a desire in Maya to be adored and needed. There are things in her past that have created the person she is now.
Perhaps David should be keeping an eye on this situation…
Emmerdale continues on Wednesday 17th October at 7pm on ITV.
