Holby City has aired a dramatic death as the storyline of villainous Professor Gaskell and his experimental treatments reached an action packed climax. As Gaskell came to blows with Henrik Hanssen, who discovered the awful truths about Gaskells crimes – including the murder of Roxanna – the deadly surgeon was left dead after drowning in a lake.
Back at the hospital, Jac Naylor had discovered the truth about the implant she had been given by Gaskell and insisted on surgery to have it removed. Knowing that she may not survive, she reached out to her good friends Sacha and Fletch to look after her daughter.
Thankfully, Jac is still with us – though only just – which is more than can be said for despicable Gaskell. With everything falling apart around him, he had drugged Essie and left her in the basement. He had also attempted to operate on patient Lana himself in order to keep the truth of what he was doing under wraps.
And when Hanssen, who had been given tip offs from Sacha via Meena, burst into his office and found Lana with open wounds, he was left horrified by what his former friend had become. Luckless Hanssen then ended up putting his hand in a toxic chemical which started to cause hallucinations as he gave chase to Gaskell, who had finally realised there was no way back for him now.
By the side of a lake, Gaskell confessed his crimes to a now very ill Hanssen. Back at the hospital, poison in Jacs drip, placed there by Gaskell, was impacting on her recovery and she fought for life.
As Hanssen collapsed during an altercation with Gaskell, the Professor submerged himself in the lake while Lana passed away back at the hospital, becoming his final victim.
Gaskell ended up paying for his crimes with his own life as he did not emerge from the water while Jac and Hanssen have very narrowly escaped his killer clutches. But with so many dead due to Gaskells actions, it may be some time before those affected by what he did are able to pick up the pieces from the shocking ordeal.
