Nicole suffered a huge scare while filming The Destroyer

Nicole Kidman had quite the terrifying scare on set of her new movie The Destroyer.

The Big Little Lies actress reveals that she was forced to flee the set after a shooter went on the run in the local area of south central Los Angeles.

During her Life In Pictures talk at Bafta on Wednesday, Nicole detailed the heart-racing incident which resulted in her falling to the ground in the panicked rush to get to safety.

The 51-year-old actress recalled: Youre on a limited budget and what I call “scrappy” filmmaking where youre just getting it done, you dont have a lot of money, youre out on location.

We were in south central L.A. at one point shooting and they were like, “Get inside theres a shooter! A live shooter.” Im like, “What?”

The Destroyer sees Nicole playing Erin Bell, an LAPD detective who must infiltrate a gang she once tried to take down while dealing with a strained relationship with her daughter.

Musing on her transition from filming HBOs Big Little Lies to the gritty feature film, Nicole explained: Its a wonderful thing as an actor to go from say Big Little Lies to that. That for me is the magnificence of being given a chance to create things and people taking risks.

Nobody would ever see Big Little Lies and then go, “Oh, Im going to give you Erin Bell”. But [director] Karyn [Kusama] took a chance on me.

Nicole recently revealed how she suffered deep depression as a result of the challenging role and now admits it was an uncomfortable time.

The Hollywood star said: It was uncomfortable for me as Nicole in that state for a long period of time. It wasnt pleasant but I do think you give things up artistically. You commit and sometimes that means you commit more at a particularly time.

Im lucky that I have a family that understands what I do. My young children have a fascination and interests in storytelling now. Their imaginations have been strengthened by watching me, even though their favourite film of mine so far is Aquaman.

But they do give me the place to go creative as does some kids so Im very lucky. But this did take more than I thought it was going to take and it did take me off into a limbo state that I existed in for a little period of time.
