The latest episodes of Holby City have been nail-bitingly touch and go for Jac Naylor thanks to John Gaskell.
For a moment it looked like she might actually die after she forced Gaskell to operate to remove the implant only to find it couldnt be done, and for him to somehow not take the opportunity to bump her off.
Thankfully though, her life was risked with one final trip under the knife as Selfie showed up to save the day after Sacha called him as a last resort.
But even then it was touch and go for a while there, with it looking quite likely Jac wouldnt survive, and for fans, that was an absolutely unthinkable outcome, with many having a passionate response to Jacs jeopardy. Some went as far as plying executive producer Simon Harper with hate mail.
He told metro.co.uk: Youll see Jac has survived to the joy of the audience. It makes me laugh to think people think I would kill Jac off. I got hate mail!
He added: I got hate mail. Honestly. There were a couple of episodes and a couple of cliffhangers with the Gaskell story and she got operated on a lot, and I got hate mail saying “how dare you! How dare you kill off this character, do you want to ruin this show?”
The sudden influx of messages caused him to question the future storylines.
I was like “I havent have I?” and I said to series producer Kate [Oats] “we havent killed of Jac have we?” and thats how strongly people feel about her.
Fans also feel strongly about her relationship with Fletch after their kiss in October, and particularly after he suffered such anguish while she was out for the count during her surgeries, with the decision over whether or not to switch off her life support hanging over him, even fighting against Sacha at the thought of putting her life at risk by allowing Selfie to operate.
But whether or not anything happens with them? Youll have to keep watching.
