Maya Stepney is set to reach a major decision in Emmerdale tonight following her shock action which saw her plant a kiss on underage teenager Jacob Gallagher. Lovestruck Jacob had lied about sleeping with Liv Flaherty to make her jealous and it appeared to work as the teacher was hit by the green eyed monster.
When the truth came out that Jacob and Liv werent an item, Maya told him that she was flattered by his attention and then left the youngster extremely confused when she planted a kiss on him.
Tonight, Maya will tell him that no-one can know about what happened as she could lose her job and she reaches the decision that she has to end things with David Metcalfe. She prepares to tell an oblivious David that she is moving out but how much will she confess – will she tell him that she and Jacob shared a kiss? Or will she keep him in the dark?
The storyline is set to focus on the grooming of Jacob and the soap has been working with Barnardos and child sex abuse survivors to ensure that the episodes are portrayed accurately.
Series producer Laura Shaw explained: It was important for us to tell this storyline authentically, so we approached Barnardos for advice on scripts and character behaviour. Our researchers, story team – along with actors Louisa, Matthew and Joe-Warren – met with Barnardos experts and young men who have been supported by the charity.
We met some incredible individuals and were moved by their courage and willingness to help us tell this story sensitively. Hopefully it will make young people and their parents more aware of these issues and their impact.
It remains to be seen where the storyline goes from here but it could be just the beginning for Jacob, whose head is all over the place due to Maya giving in to her feelings for him.
As for how David will react when he finds out, will he blame himself for missing the signs?
