After news of a deadly stunt set to hit Weatherfield next year surfaced weve been preparing ourselves, but theres more upset to come, as the death that the stunt leads to may leave Coronation Street fans traumatised.

The roof of the factory is set to collapse leaving many lives in ruins with the loss of jobs and incomes and leaving Carlas mental health in tatters as she takes the blame. But for one person the consequences will be the most devastating of all.

One person will die in the stunt, and brace yourselves because producer Iain MacLeod has revealed that the identity of that person is a well-loved character and their loss will leave us utterly distraught.

The scenes themselves are heartbreaking, Iain told metro.co.uk. The death is very well written. There wont be a dry eye in the house, but the bit Im more interested in is the aftermath and the revealing of secrets.

Explaining how the stunt will work, Iain said: It will at first appear to be an accident, but will then be revealed to be a mystery and itll have been some kind of criminal enterprise that causes it all to fall down.

Were starting with the crime and then gradually revealing the motives afterwards. I hope weve plotted it quite cleverly, but whodunnits are such a headache. Im sure someone on Twitter will spot a clanger.

The after effects of the roof collapse will be felt for a long while after the event, with a special standalone episode centering around Carla set to show the impact its had on her, and there will be the reveal of Corries latest villain.

Its a community story – everyone is out of a job temporarily, Iain revealed. Lots of financial and lifestyle stories spinning off from it. They emerge from the big incident. It will have ripples that extend into the next six to 12 months and will eventually see the coronation of our next super villain. This is the beginning of creating the next iteration of the Corrie bad guy.
