General Leia will be able to return to screens in 2019 without resorting to recasting, CGI or animatronics.

And the brother of late actress Carrie Fisher says her posthumous appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX will look natural, as if it was shot yesterday.

US director Todd said he was thrilled with the truly satisfying conclusion of Carries most famous role as he shared an insight into the latest film.

Todd told Good Morning America: Theres a lot of minutes of footage. I dont mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline.

Thats whats going to give everybody such a great kick. Its going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday.

Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character.

With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie [Lourd] we have found a way to honour Carries legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.

And Carries brother personally gave his approval to the move, saying that he waited for Carrie to reprise her role with great anticipation.

He said: Carries Princess Leia is forever entrenched in the franchise and her indelible presence is fundamental to the film.

J.J. Abrams understood Carries iconic role, and he has masterfully re-crafted this final entry to include this unused and very last footage of Carrie ever taken, without resorting to CGI or animatronics.

Star Wars: Episode IX is slated for release one week before the third anniversary of Carries death, on December 19, 2019.
