No one should be so confident or so reckless as to predict the best-picture winner nearly a year in advance, but here at the Little Gold Men podcast, we are willing to accept that risk. On this weeks episode, Deciders Joe Reid joins Richard Lawson, Katey Rich, and Joanna Robinson to take a look at the contenders in the year ahead—at least, the ones we know about already. Heavy Oscar hitters like Tom Hanks, Sam Mendes, and Martin Scorsese are in the race this year, but what about Tom Hoopers Cats? Or the much-anticipated literary adaptation The Goldfinch? Or Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman as former Fox News power players Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson in Fair and Balanced? Will Renée Zellweger get the comeback she deserves playing Judy Garland? Can projects from Greta Gerwig, Marielle Heller, or Chloé Zhao ensure we dont go another year without a single female director nominee?
