EXO are the latest K-pop band to face separation, as their eldest member has confirmed his enlistment will start next month.
Xiumin is set to enlist as an active duty soldier on 7 May, SM Entertainment has confirmed.
The 29-year-old, full name Kim Min-Seok, wants to enlist quietly, with his agency saying that the location and time of location will not be made public.
Xiumin has also decided to enlist without any special goodbye events.
However, the K-pop star will be bidding Japanese fans farewell as he takes part in the EXO-CBX Magical Circus tour on 16, 17, 27, 28 and 29 of April.
Xiumin has been part of the EXO subunit since 2016, along with Chen and Baekhyun.
It is unclear whether the subunit will continue without Xiumin.
Xiumin is the eldest member of EXO – consisting of Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, DO, Kai and Sehun. The rest of the boys are expected to enlist over the coming years.
EXO have been going from strength to strength over the past few years, with their fifth studio album Dont Mess Up My Tempo dropping in November 2018.
This was the South Korean-Chinese groups highest charting album on the Billboard 200, reaching no 23, and produced the hit single Love Shot.
