Jett (Will McDonald) has recently left the Bay after a surprise visit, where he revealed that he was going abroad to be in the army. Although accepting of their sons life choices, Marilyn (Emily Symons) and John (Shane Withington) are left worried about his safety, and their worst fears are about to be realised.
Although Jett did well in army training, making sergeant aged just 20, that didnt stop Marilyn from looking up everything she could about what Jett was going into. Seeing the news about all the casualties due to the war in Afghanistan, Marilyn is left with even more reason to worry about what could happen to him while hes out there.
Marilyn has been telling people about how well Jett is doing in Kabul, but this is all turned upside down when she gets a mobile alert about the capital. She discovers theres been an explosion at Jetts base, and her panic goes into overdrive. What if hes been injured – or worse?
She tries to get in touch with Jett, but cant get through, which leaves her fearing the worst. Although John tries to reassure her by saying no news is good news, this doesnt help to calm her down.
John tries to contact the base in Sydney, but because communications are down, information is only coming through slowly. This means the pair have to spend a day unsure of whats happening, not knowing if Jett is safe.
