Coronation Street fans are about to discover who killed Rana Habeeb in the devastating factory collapse but show boss Iain MacLeod has revealed that the revelation next week will just be the start of a massive new, year long story for the soap and its new villain.
The top suspects for the terrible crime are currently Gary Windass (Mikey North), Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) and whoever is to blame hasnt just caused the death of an innocent and much loved woman but have also caused Carla Connors (Alison King) mental health to deteriorate to the point of a huge crisis of psychosis.
Iain told TV Times: The most exciting part of this is that it propels us into a huge, year-long story. Thats the joy of soap. The end of one story is always the beginning of a shiny new one!
The villain is expected to fit the mould of former iconic characters such as Mike Baldwin rather than becoming a serial killer similar to Pat Phelan and Richard Hillman. Out of the three, Nick has been the one painted as the most obvious and suspicious culprit.
And there is an exit on the horizon for Tristan as Robert will make a dramatic exit later in the year.
The week of drama will not just be about the reveal of the killer and Carlas mental health episode. It will also focus on Garys ongoing war with loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) and a Platt family holiday which ends in absolute disaster – especially as Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) discovers the truth about her stolen money.
