Holby City is set to welcome a new character to the hospital in December as locum surgeon Ben arrives. The fresh face, played by Coronation Street star Charlie Condou, has been described as a charming alpha consultant who will be stirring up the dynamics on the ward.

Its comes as no surprise then that its not long before Ben catches the eye of someone on the team.

Im over the moon to be joining Holby City as suave new Doctor Ben Sherwood, Charlie enthused. Hes a good guy but will definitely be ruffling a few feathers over the coming months. I cant wait to get started!

Executive Producer Simon Harper, added: Charlies a very fine actor and well known popular TV face – and we are very lucky to have tempted him to Holby.

I cant wait to see him as Ben, both causing a stir and getting under the skin of his colleagues on Keller.

Charlies arrival news comes just one week after it was confirmed that Patsy Kensit would be coming back as Faye Morton for a one-off special episode tonight in celebration of the soaps 20th anniversary.

Patys return comes nine years after she last appeared, with Faye waiting for a life-saving transplant due to ongoing issues with alcohol addiction.

In upcoming scenes, Fayes problem is made worse when she finds out former love rival Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) is lined up to perform the surgery.

It was wonderful, Patsy said as she recalled her time back at Holby. I couldnt have felt more welcomed.

Holby City continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
