The singer-songwriter said: “It was a song I just knocked off.

“It was inspired from – this is a very vague connection – from Baby Lets Play House.

“There was a line on it – I used to like specific lines from songs – Id rather see you dead, little girl, than to be with another man.”

John Lennon added: “So I wrote it around that but I didnt think it was that important.

“Girl I liked because I was, in a way, trying to say something or other about Christianity which I was opposed to at the time.”

While Lennon wasnt keen on Run For You Life, he did one reveal his favourite Beatles songs and album.

The late star was a big fan of 1968s The White Album.

John Lennon made the reveal in a 1971 interview about the break up of The Beatles a year earlier.

The Beatle claimed Paul didnt like The White Album as he “wanted it to be more a group thing, which really means more Paul. So he never liked that album.”

But Lennon admitted it was his favourite of the 12, adding: “I always preferred it to all the other albums, including Pepper, because I thought the music was better. The Pepper myth is bigger, but the music on the White Album is far superior, I think.”

While his favourite songs were also revealed in the Rolling Stone interview.

Lennon said: “I always liked [I Am The] Walrus, Strawberry Fields, Help!, In My Life. Those are some favourites, yknow.”

A surprised interviewer Jann Wenner asked why he included Help! among his favourites.

The musician replied: “Because I meant it, its real.”

He added: “The lyric is as good now as it was then, its no different, you know.

“It makes me feel secure to know that I was that sensible or whatever – well, not sensible, but aware of myself. Thats with no acid, no nothing… well pot or whatever.

“It was just me singing help and I meant it, you know. I dont like the recording that much, the song I like. We did it too fast to try and be commercial.”

Lennon also highlighted I Want To Hold Your Hand, Strawberry Fields and Across The Universe.
