Tony Dungy Defends His Faith-Based Super Bowl Analysis

Tony Dungy often lets his Christian faith influence the way he looks at football, but apparently some fans don’t appreciate him referencing religion in his sports coverage.

After receiving criticism for talking about Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles’ faith during NBC’s coverage of Super Bowl LII, Dungy is not backing down to the ignorant viewers and reporters who are attacking him on social media.

“NBC pays me to express my opinion. And it was my opinion that Nick Foles would play well because his Christian faith would allow him to to play with confidence. And that he’s a good QB. I think I was right on both counts,” Dungy wrote in a tweet posted on Monday.

Former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin apparently told Alshon Jeffery that he would end up pumping gas for a living if he played for South Carolina.

ESPN wrote the following on the situation:

Kiffin was equally dogged. But when it was obvious that Jeffery wasn’t going to Tennessee, Kiffin took off the gloves.

According to Jeffrey and Wilson, Kiffin told Jeffery that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.

Jeffery was doing his best to stay awake at that point, but that comment from Kiffin woke him up. He clearly hasn’t forgotten it, either.

“He said it, but it’s not worth talking about,” Jeffery said.

Well, I enjoy Lane Kiffin, but I think it’s safe to say the whole pumping gas prediction did not turn out to be correct. Jeffery went to play for the Gamecoc..

Philadelphia Eagles Players Get A Pretty Nice Bonus Check For Super Bowl Victory

Every Philadelphia Eagles player scored a six-figure bonus for beating the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

The players will each get $191,000 for the team’s playoff run, and that doesn’t include any bonus money players negotiated into their contracts, according to TMZ Sports. TMZ also pointed out that the NFL bonuses are substantially less than the MLB, but it’s pretty hard to feel bad for the Eagles players.

Winning the Super Bowl is pretty sweet to begin with, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to get nearly another $200,000 sent your way. I wonder how quickly these players get these checks. You’d think that they’d spend this money in the blink of an eye if they get handed them on the way out of the stadium. I’m sure they don’t, but it’d be fun to think about.

I’d head straight to the club and buy as much booze as I possibly could, which is a lot with nearly $200,000.

Harry Kane hits back at Van Dijk diving accusations

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has denied Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk’s allegation that he dived to win a penalty in Sunday’s heated 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Spurs were the beneficiaries of two controversial spot-kick awards in a frantic final 15 minutes, the first of which came when Kane went down following a challenged from Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius.

Kane missed that penalty but did convert his second chance from 12 yards, which came in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Van Dijk kicked Erik Lamela, to earn a draw in the Premier League fixture.

Asked whether he had been brought down by Karius, Kane said: “Yeah. He has dived, he has got in the way and I’m a player, I’m not going to jump out of the way. I’ve definitely felt contact and I’ve gone down.

“Lamela’s one, I thought the linesman showed amazing character to give that because a lot happened for the first one about the linesman so to give that penalty was massive and it was a penalty.”

Van Dijk had accused both Kane and Lamela of diving in the aftermath of a match that Liverpool led until the 80th minute and then appeared to have won through Mohamed Salah’s 91st-minute strike.

“I think it is a dive,” he said of the first penalty. ”You see him [Kane] diving clearly and no-one is talking about that.

“For the second penalty, I see him [Lamela] coming and I try and hold my leg in. He just pulled his body in front of the ball and he goes down. I don’t think that is a pen and the same with the first one.”

Kane’s late equaliser brought up a century of Premier League goals in his 141st appearance. That made him the second fastest to reach 100, although he is already aiming to speed up his strike rate.

“I am going to enjoy the moment, but let’s see how many I can get this year and go from there,” the England frontman added.

“Hopefully I can get better and better. I am 24; that’s not young but it’s not old so I’ve still got a lot of learning to do. I feel I am getting more experience year by year and I feel I am getting stronger and more physical and hopefully that just continues. I will always keep trying to work hard and get better and hopefully that will be the case.”
