Coronation Street are set to tackle a storyline so controversial that cast have been contacted by the shows bosses to ensure that they are okay with being involved according to actor Antony Cotton.

Over the last year or two in particular, the soap has been known for braving topical issues such as male depression and suicide, rape, child sex rings and drug abuse and has been praised for raising awareness and portraying hard hitting but important drama.

The mysterious storyline is set to commence next year and will involve a large number of the streets residents, but other than an email being sent round to consult cast members about their involvement, no further details can be revealed at this stage.
