Danny Kanell Has A Hot Take About Football And Player Safety

Sports

Sports pundit Danny Kanell had a hot take about football for the ages late Monday night.

It all started when former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy weighed in on safety in the game on Twitter when he tweeted, “I find it fascinating many people look at FB Players as modern day gladiators. Why are so many people adamantly against a rule change that will reduce the violence on Kickoffs? Are they also against player safety? I like kickoffs too, but not at the expense of players health.”

I like kickoffs too, but not at the expense of players health.

Well, Kanell didnt really agree with McElroy at all. He fired back with, “Football is a violent game. It will never be safe. The quicker we all come to that realization the better off the game will be. If you dont like that …go play/watch/commentate soccer.”

I laughed out loud when I read this tweet because its such a football guy thing to say. He totally acknowledges that football is unsafe, and then lets everybody know that he doesnt give a damn. Thats a football man through and through.

You probably cant find a bigger football fan with me, and Ive even always been a fan of Kanells work. It was a travesty when ESPN cut him loose. That was a terrible decision. However, Im not sure that I agree with his take here. I love the game, but CTE and injuries should be avoided at all costs. I think we can enjoy the game, and at the same time get it to be a shade safer.
