Novak Djokovics US Open exit has swung the door wide open for Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to capitalise as the trio battle for the year-end No. 1 ranking and the ongoing race to end their respective careers at the top of the all-time Grand Slam charts.

The Serb was widely tipped to succeed on both fronts given his ruthless domination at the majors in recent times, but he was unable to win a fifth Grand Slam in the space of two years after a shoulder injury halted his progress.

Both Federer and Nadal were beaten by the world No. 1 in respective Slam finals at Wimbledon and the Australian Open this season but will not have to go through the Serb in New York.

And the winner will perhaps seek a vital advantage in the pursuit to become the all-time Grand Slam leader when all is said and done at the end of their careers.

Look, its no secret that I have, you know, of course desire and a goal to reach the most Slams, you know, and reach Rogers record, Djokovic said.

But at the same time, its a long road ahead hopefully for me. I hope I can play for many more years. Im planning to. I mean, I dont see an end behind the corner at all.

Now its a matter of keeping my body and mind in shape and trying to still peak at these kind of events that are majors and that are the most significant in our sport.
