Lisa Fowler was last seen being sectioned after a chain of bitter showdowns with Phil Mitchell led her to take her ill daughter Louise to a hotel room and refuse to let her out in EastEnders. Since then, viewers have been left to assume that Lisa has been recovering as Louise has visited her mum – and Tamzin Outhwaite reckons that its about time Lucy Benjamin returned to reprise the role.
Viewers were full of praise when Lucy returned and gave some stellar performances as troubled Lisa and now they want to know more of the story and how her relationships with Louise, Phil, Sharon and Mel would continue.
Given Mel and Lisas close friendship when they were both in the show and afterwards when they lived together abroad, it seems inevitable that writers would want to revisit the dynamic – not least of all because Mel certainly needs a friend right now!
With incoming producer Kate Oates already teasing that she has some returning characters in mind, Tamzin is hopeful that Lisa is on the hit list.

She told Metro.co.uk: Cant she come back!? I cant remember the last time Mel saw Lisa, it was fraught. After prison and then going away. Id love to work with her again, we used to have a brilliant time.
Id love Mel to have some female friends. Maybe Rays ex wives could stay on – but you wouldnt would you? Its weird!
Mel and Sharon do have a relationship but its quite business minded. I feel they would get on well socially. The other people – like Kat, who is her cleaner. Mels a little snobby around the Slaters.
She doesnt really have any mates. Ray asks about her maid of honour and bridesmaids and Mel replies: “Oh yeah, look at the queue of women out there”. She has no bridesmaids. Her mate was Lisa.
