Thisll all make much more sense once you see the movie

A sequel to the surprise hit Lego Movie is out in the spring but the first sets come out this December – and they look really cool.

2014s The Lego Movie was not only an unexpected hit with both audiences and critics but, naturally, it got a ton of amazing Lego sets to go along with it.

Although theres been spin-offs since then, like The Lego Batman Movie, the first proper sequel is due out in February.

It stars all the original cast with Chris Pratt as both Emmet and new character Rex Dangervest, whos a parody of all the famous roles hes had since he became famous after Lego – including Owen from Jurassic Park and Star-Lord.

Youve also got Elizabeth Banks as Lucy, aka Wyldstyle; Will Arnett as Batman; Charlie Day as Benny the spaceman; Alison Brie as Princess Unikitty; and Nick Offerman as MetalBeard the giant cyborg pirate.

The exact plot of the film isnt exactly clear yet, and you probably dont want to be spoiled anyway, but judging by the trailer it involves a minidoll called Sweet Mayhem (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz) kidnapping all of Emmetts friends and another new character voiced by Tiffany Haddish called Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi.

The meta plot though seems to be that Finns sister is now allowed to play with his Lego, with the story continuing on from the alien (actually Duplo) at the end of the first film with everyone living in a Mad Max-inspired wasteland.

The first wave of sets will be revealed in their entirety later today, but Metro has been granted first look at three of them, all of which will be released on Boxing Day:

Emmets Dream House/Rescue Rocket (70831)
Ages 8+, 706 pieces
RRP £54.99

The biggest set so far, you can see Emmets house in the trailer, both when he lives in it (which is the normal sort of thing you do with a house) and when he turns it into a rocket ship to go and rescue his friends (which is not). It includes minifigures for Emmet, Lucy, and Rex Dangervest, plus buildable versions of Planty and Warrior Kitty (Unikittys newer, Mad Max style form).

Emmets Thricycle! (70823)
Ages 7+, 173 pieces
RRP £12.99

The cheapest set is a brand-new vehicle that looks like the sort of typically impractical design Emmet would come up with and seems like it was probably made out of the pieces for a dump truck of some sort. It comes with an Emmet minifgure and also a buildable alien invader that looks similar to the Duplo enemies from the end of the first film.

Emmet and Bennys Build and Fix Workshop (70821)
Ages 4+, 117 pieces
RRP £17.99

If this set looks a bit simplistic its because its been made so that kids as young as four can build it. But it still looks pretty neat, with a version of Bennys Spaceship and an escape buggy for Emmet. All the pieces are still regular Lego, not Duplo, so they can be used together with any other set for older kids (and adults).
