EXCLUSIVE: BLOOM will launch international sales at Cannes for the Julius Onah-directed Luce. The just-wrapped film stars Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, Tim Roth and Mudbounds Kelvin Harrison Jr. The film is based on J.C. Lees play, which was adapted by Lee and Onah. John Baker, Onah and Andrew Yang are producing. Eric Ro is co-producer and The Dream Factory Groups Rob Feng, Amber Wang and Lee are exec producers. CAA and Endeavor Content are co-repping domestic rights.

Harrison Jr plays Luce Edgar, a model student, track star and champion debater, stature that pleases the parents (Watts and Roth) who adopted him from a war-torn African nation and were concerned he might be haunted by the violent trauma of his upbringing in Africa. Luces teacher, Harriet (Spencer), believes he represents a symbol of black excellence setting a positive example for his peers – until she discovers the well-researched paper he wrote, one littered with disturbing statements about political violence. Eager to protect her star pupil, Harriet investigates but her discoveries force Luces parents to question their assumptions of who their adopted child really is and set a chain of events in motion that will change everyones lives forever.

Said BLOOM President of International Sales Kristen Figeroid: “Luce is a captivating story that constantly has the audience on its toes – a social chess match that is timely and internationally relevant. Julius Onah is a talent we have great belief in and he has assembled an amazing cast to portray this story we are excited to discuss with our partners in Cannes.”

BLOOM will also be selling at Cannes the Dee Rees-directed The Last Thing He Wanted with Anne Hathaway starring, the David Sandberg-directed Kung Fury with Michael Fassbender, the Yuval Adler-directed The Operative, the Sam Levinson-directed Sundance smash Assassination Nation, the Bill Holderman-directed Book Club starring Diane Keaton and Jane Fonda, and the Matthew Heineman-directed A Private War starring Rosamund Pike.
