Jordan Peeles Mysterious Thriller Us Is About the Horror of Unplugging

Celebrities

For the last few months, Jordan Peele has played coy on the details surrounding his upcoming film, Us, his follow-up to Oscar-winning debut Get Out. A few details rose to the surface; it was going to be another social thriller, and it was going to have a very wispy poster and a titillating tagline: “A new nightmare from the mind of Academy Award winner Jordan Peele.” It was later reported that Us would star Black Panther pals Lupita Nyongo and Winston Duke, as well as Elisabeth Moss; Nyongo and Duke were set to play a couple, with Moss playing one half of another couple. And that was about all the public knew.

But with the films March 2019 release date creeping ever closer, its become more and more difficult to keep the films secrets under wraps. Now /Film has reportedly acquired the plot synopsis, which has apparently been sent out with recent test screening invites for the project. Heres how it reads:

“A mother (Academy Award winner Lupita Nyongo from Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 12 Years a Slave) and a father (Winston Duke from Black Panther) take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends (including Emmy winner Elizabeth Moss [sic] from TV series The Handmaids Tale). But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.”

Representatives for Peele have not yet confirmed this plot synopsis, though it certainly sounds like something that Peele may have dreamt up. Unplugging might be necessary from time to time, but its a nightmarish concept when left in the hands of a horror aficionado. It also sounds just in line with Peeles plans: the director has said in the past that Get Out is the first in five planned social thrillers he hopes to release in the next decade.

Though Us is out soon, its far from the only project Peele has waiting in the wings. Hes got a Twilight Zone reboot on the way and is also getting to work on a recently announced Candyman remake. Plus, hes cramming in voice work here and there in projects like Toy Story 4 and Wendell and Wild, both of which reunites him with Key and Peele co-creator Keegan-Michael Key.
