Romelu Lukaku will miss another week of action, but could be back in time for the visit of Stoke next Monday.

That is according to Jose Mourinho who will have to do without his top scorer for the next two games.

Manchester United play Everton at Goodison Park on Monday and then welcome Derby to Old Trafford on Friday in the third round of the FA Cup.

Lukaku suffered a head injury in the draw against Southampton and has been sidelined as he recovers from a concussion.

But, Mourinho is hopeful Lukaku’s absence will be short-lived with United’s busy festive schedule well underway.

‘I’d say a week, it’s nothing really important, just a little protection but no problem,’ Mourinho said when asked how long Lukaku would be out for before the Everton game.

‘The players are giving everything like they have done from the first minute of the season.

‘No Lukaku and no Ibrahimovic means we do not have a No.9 so we have to change.

‘The spirit is good, the players are playing well, we are not getting the results in the last few matches but the team is playing well.’

Lukaku leads United’s scoring charts this season with 14 goals already and has bagged ten goals in the Premier League.

United will be eager to put some daylight between them and Liverpool after the Reds struck late to beat Burnley at Turf Moor.

Liverpool are now level on points with United and Mourinho will be keen to restore a three-point gap between them and the Reds by beating Everton.

Wayne Rooney lines up against his old side as the Englishman welcomes United to Goodison Park for the first time since making the switch back to his boyhood club in the summer.
