In 2018, a record 185 women are running to be among the 435 seats in the House; 143 are running as Democrats and 42 are Republicans. The most women to run as Republicans was 53 in the 2004 election.

Gains and losses

For Democrats to take control of the House, they will need to flip 24 Republican seats. The most seats to flip in a midterm election in recent history was 63 in 2010. Statistical analysis site FiveThirtyEight says the Democrats have an 80 percent chance of taking control of the House and a 31 percent chance of taking the Senate.
