New Hollywood Podcast: The Best Of Diverse And Inclusive Film & TV In 2018

Films

Marvel Studios, FX, Warner Bros.

From Marvels game-changing superhero pic Black Panther to the Warner Bros. rom-com blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians to the fabulous trailblazing FX 80s ball culture drama Pose, 2018 was a big year for diversity, inclusion, and representation. This year also marked the one year anniversary of the New Hollywood Podcast where we have had almost 50 episodes featuring some of the best when it comes to underrepresented voices in film and television.

With our first ever-year end episode, myself, Amanda NDuka and producer David Janove reflect on our amazing roster of past guests, our favorite film and TV shows from the year as well as some of the highest (Searching! Insecure! Atlanta! Mrs. Maisel! Spider-Verse!) & lowest moments (Kevin Hart and his “apology” for his homophobic tweets!) in 2018 when it came to milestones and scandals. We also discuss what we are looking forward to in 2019 when it comes to TV and film. We reached a consensus that all of us will be first in line for Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame while I went on and on about my obsession with Jordan Peeles Us. In addition, we gave our forecast of what we expect for the ever-changing landscape of diversity and inclusion in Hollywood for the new year.
