Ever wondered how Lord Voldemort managed to cast all those evil spells in the Harry Potter films despite the fact that he never seemed to have a firm grip of it?

Yeah, the thought keeps us up at night, too.

Well, wonder no longer.

Ralph Fiennes has finally lifted the lid on one of the sneakiest production tricks behind his transformation into the infamous wizarding villain, who he starred as in five Potter movies across the years.

Speaking to GQ, Fiennes detailed just how Voldemorts ability to wreak havoc while barely clutching his wand was achieved on screen without it, you know, forlornly tumbling out of his mitts in every scene.

Spoiler alert: no magic was involved. Sorry, everyone.

With Stuart Craig, whos the production designer, and his team, we discussed what the wand would be, the actor recalled.

It has a hook on it, so I can hold my hand, and then the end can hook around this finger. Like I almost have the hand open… youd think it would fall off the hand.

But I just enjoyed that it could be light in the hand.

Plenty of make-up and digital re-touching also went into Fiennes full transformation into He Who Must Not Be Named, but did Fiennes enjoy the overall experience of playing Voldemort on screen? Er, well…

You just have to hate Harry Potter… with a deep loathing, he said with, we must add, a knowing smile and a wink.

Fiennes is fiercely protective of his role, though, adding: Ill be p***ed if they brought back Voldemort and didnt ask me!
