A man arrested Wednesday in connection with a Van Nuys carjacking was also captured on video punching three women inside a Sherman Oaks nail salon before they fought back, and he was later arrested.

Gustavo Aranda, 25, of Chatsworth was arrested at 12:30 p.m. at the nail salon on the 13600 block of Burbank Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Authorities said the case began as a robbery carjacking at 8:25 a.m. near the 14400 block of Gilmore Street in Van Nuys.

The suspect, now revealed to be Aranda, is alleged to have approached the victim from behind and shouted obscenities, which caused him to run away, authorities said.

Aranda, authorities said, then allegedly chased the victim and hit him repeatedly before he fell to the ground and Aranda forcefully removed his keys.

After allegedly fleeing in the victim’s vehicle, a 2007 gray Toyota 4 Runner, the suspect was later seen entering the Sherman Oaks nail salon and hitting three women for no reason, authorities said.

The nail salon is Bio Laque Nails, located at 13650 Burbank Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, just east of Woodman Avenue.

The victims, authorities said, were “in an intense fight for their life” with the suspect, who punched them several times.

In the video, some of the women can be seen fighting back using what looks like portable folding tables before the man leaves and comes back swinging one of the tables and hitting one of the victims.

The victims fight back again before employees from a neighboring business arrive and apprehended the suspect, authorities said.
