For all you die-hard Matrix fans out there – or just curious peeps who believe there is more to this dimension – we’re sorry to inform you that the collection of trippy green symbols that are synonymous with the sci-fi franchise aren’t as technical as you may have first assumed.
Turns out instead of some crazy password to another world, like, the Matrix, or something, those green symbols are merely a giant collection of Japanese characters known as hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
The franchise’s production designer Simon Whiteley revealed in an interview with CNet that the source of that mystifying code was none other than a batch of his Japanese wife’s cookbooks.
He said: ‘I like to tell everybody that The Matrix’s code is made out of Japanese sushi recipes.
‘Without that code, there is no Matrix.’
Well there you have it.
You thought you were looking at some wacky, amazing portal but really you were just puzzled by a really bangin’ Spicy Tuna roll recipe.
