EastEnders fans are preparing to bid farewell to Mel Owen as Tamzin Outhwaite bows out of the soap.

The actress has been seen filming her final scenes recently – which have hinted that the character could be set to make an explosive exit, possibly even in a similar manner to her late ex Steve Owen (Martin Kemp).

But just when is Tamzin leaving the soap – and whats going to happen to Mel?

Heres what you need to know…

When is Mel Owen leaving EastEnders?

No exact date has been given for the characters departure from Albert Square, but we know well be seeing the last of her this winter.

Tamzin was seen shooting her final scenes earlier this month, so expect to see them onscreen some time in the next few months, given how far in advance episodes are shot.

Recent scenes have seen the character falling apart after the death of her damaged son Hunter (Charlie Winter) and her hate for the Mitchells has grown after Phil (Steve McFadden) banned Jay (Jamie Borthwick) from attending the funeral.

However Mels about to become embroiled in a blackmail scheme against Sharon (Letitia Dean) after she learns that the baby she is expecting is Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters)s.

Shes desperate for money as she makes plans for a fresh start in Portugal with Lisa Fowler (Lucy Benjamin) – but the scenes being shot recently hint at a more dramatic end than that.

Tamzin revealed earlier this month that she was filming her final scenes on the soap, taking to Twitter to mark the occasion.

So thats it! The end of an era… for me at least, she said.
