Madonna appeared on the Graham Norton Show last night, alongside Danny Boyle, Lily James, Sir Ian McKellen, and Himesh Patel.

The interview with the singer was deemed to be divisive, with Piers Morgan branding her rude for failing to remember an encounter shed had with McKellen years ago.

Ever the charmer, Piers also claimed the singer looked ridiculous while sat on the hallowed GM sofa.

Perhaps he was referring to a new addition to the stars appearance; an eye patch.

Shes been seen sporting the patch for some time now, which may have left fans wondering whether Madge has an eye problem.

Theres no need to worry about Madonnas ocular health, as it turns out the eye patch is all part of her new persona, Madame X.

The 60-year-old is Queen of reinventions, and this was no different. Madame X was revealed as part of her new album promotion, and after a long hiatus from the much-loved popstar.

Madonna explained to Today why she wears the patch as part of this, saying: Shes a spy. Shes a secret agent. She travels the world. She changes her identity. She sleeps with one eye open. And she travels through the day with one eye shut. Shes actually been wounded. So shes covering up one of her eyes.

Inspiration for the character apparently came from her dance teacher Martha Graham, who nicknamed teenage Madonna Madame X; because she found it hard to pin her down.

The persona – and the new album, which has just been released – explores the artists mix of vulnerability and power, and her journey through fame over the years.
