Staying inside this New Year’s Eve but can’t face the prospect of another Jools Holland Annual Hootenanny or Alan Carr spectacular while you wait for the chance to belt out Auld Lang Syne?
Then why not turn to Netflix and spend the final hours of 2017 watching something completely different for a change.
From classic spoofs and twisty thrillers to feel-good singalongs and indie dramedies, here’s a look at 10 titles currently available on the streaming service, which are perfect NYE entertainment.
Happy New Year

We couldn’t have a list of NYE films without including the one Netflix title, which actually wishes viewers a Happy New Year.
Released in 2014, this colourful three-hour mish-mash of musical, comedy drama and heist movie sees a bunch of misfits attempt to pull off an elaborate diamond robbery by posing as a dance crew, and remains one of the biggest Bollywood box-office successes of all time.
Ghostbusters II

Netflix also has several other films on offer that are set (or partially set) on New Year’s Eve.
Perhaps the most famous is Ghostbusters II, in which the gang are forced to save New York from a torrent of slime on the day itself using little more than their backpacks and a remix of Jackie Wilson’s Higher And Higher.
When Harry Met Sally…

New Year’s Eve also proves to be a pivotal time in Nora Ephron’s genre-defining rom-com, When Harry Met Sally…
Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan’s longtime friends first start to discover an attraction to each other at a NYE party, and (Spoiler Alert) they later declare their love for each other on a New Year’s Eve too.
The Overnight

If you’re feeling a bit fed up that you’re stuck inside on your own this New Year’s Eve, then this bizarre but compelling indie dramedy should soon make you feel glad you haven’t received any other offers.
Adam Scott and Taylor Schilling play married Los Angeles newcomers who appear to have made their first new friends when they’re invited to an eccentric couple’s family pizza night.
Of course, not everything is as it seems, and by the end of the hilariously weird evening, both parties will never be the same again.
Mamma Mia

Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from having your own party for one anyway.
Yes, the big-screen transfer of the ABBA jukebox musical amounts to little more than A-list karaoke, but just go with it and its unashamed sense of camp soon becomes difficult to resist.
Sing Street

If a tone-deaf Pierce Brosnan ruining an ABBA classic isn’t your bag, then you could always check out this Golden Globe-nominated feel good musical from Once director John Carney.
Set in 1980s Dublin, Sing Street sees a teenage outsider attempt to win over the heart of his school crush by forming a band. The result is an inherently charming musical with a fantastic soundtrack inspired by some of the decade’s greatest pop acts.
Airplane

If you’ve had a particularly tough 2017 and just want to forget about everything that’s happened over the past 12 months, then this all-time classic comedy should do the trick.
Easily the finest spoof ever made, 1980’s Airplane probably packs more jokes into its 87-minute running time than all the Scary Movies put together – and the fact that the majority actually land is a testament to the genius of the Zucker brothers.

If you’re looking for yet more pure unadulterated escapism, then why not watch a bunch of Hollywood heartthrobs baring all in an entertaining look at the male stripping industry.
If the sight of Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer and Alex Pettyfer writhing around to Ginuwine’s Pony doesn’t make you forget about your troubles, then nothing will.
Berlin Syndrome
[contfnewc]
Netflix will also premiere several 2017 cinema releases on New Year’s Eve, including bawdy comedy Fun Mom Dinner, artist biopic Final Portrait and WWII drama Another Mother’s Son.
But our recommendation is Berlin Syndrome, the gripping psychological thriller starring Max Riemelt (Sense8) as a sports school teacher who turns his holiday romance into something far more sinister.
Peep Show (New Year’s Eve)
[contfnewc]
There’s also several great TV show episodes dedicated to the highs and lows of New Year’s Eve available on Netflix, including Absolutely Fabulous’ Happy New Year, How I Met Your Mother’s The Limo and Mad Men’s Good News.
But we’ve opted for Peep Show’s typically brilliant New Year’s Eve in which Mark goes party hopping with Jeremy and Super Hans while attempting to find and make up with Dobby before the clock strikes midnight.
