Arctic Monkeys have played Mardy Bum for the first time in four years at their Sheffield homecoming show.

Fans of the band had the privilege of seeing a rare performance of Mardy Bum at their sold-out gig in FlyDSA Arena on Friday night.

And John Cooper recited I Wanna Be Yours on stage to make concert-goers feel even more special.

John also introduced the Monkeys to the stage with a reading of his 1982 poem, I Wanna Be Yours, which the band turned into a song of the same name.

I Wanna Be Yours appears on their 2013 hit album AM.

The 43-year-old writer told the audience: Its a great honour to be here and that was my version. But it took these guys to make it go worldwide so I cant thank them enough…my favourite band.

Arctic Monkeys scored their sixth UK number one album with Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, smashing a chart record in the process back in May.

The groups latest release soared to the top of the chart earning a combined sales of 86,000, with the album being the most popular release of the week across physical, digital and streaming.

Its also become the fastest-selling vinyl record of the past 25 years, shifting 24,500 copies and overtaking Liam Gallaghers As You Were opening week selling 16,000 in October 2017.

The band also outsold the entire top 40 combined on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart at the time.

This accomplishment meant that Arctic Monkeys maintained their perfect record of having every album hit the top spot, with previous releases Whatever People Say I Am Thats What Im Not, Favourite Worst Nightmare, Humbug, Suck It And See and AM all achieving number one.

It was even better news for frontman Alex Turner, who has also scored two extra number one albums with pal Miles Kane as The Last Shadow Puppets, with releases The Age Of The Understatement and Everything Youve Come To Expect.
