Ariana Grande dropped her latest track Imagine on Thursday and it gave us all the feels.

The 25-year-old teased that the new ballad would be a terrifyingly personal account about heartache ahead of its release, and now that its in our ears, fans think it could be about her relationship with late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, who tragically died of an accidental overdose at the age of 26.

As well as the songs obvious allusions to what could have been, Arianators pointed out that the title of the song is the same word Mac had tattooed in script on his inner bicep.

Did you know that Mac Miller had a tattoo with the same name as Ariana Grandes “#imagine” song? one Twitter user pointed out.

Eagle-eyed fans also delved deeper into the lyrics of the ballad, citing similarities to Macs 2016 track Cinderella – a song Ariana previously confirmed had been written about her.

In Imagine, Ariana sings: Staying up all night, order me pad thai… Quick, quick, quick, lets go, kiss me and take off your clothes, which admittedly bears a resemblance to Cinderellas: I been picturing you takin off your clothes for me… When you hungry I can shut you up with stir fry.

Or maybe the pair just both love noodles?

We wouldnt blame them for that.

And if you want to get *really* deep into the Mac Miller theory, check out the distinctive whistle notes in Imagine at around the 2.44 mark.

Some fans have suggested its no coincidence that Ari sang some similarly high-pitched notes when she teamed up with Miller for 2013 collab The Way.

Realising ariana did whistle tones in the way with mac and in imagine about mac…im sad ? how did we get here ? one fan mused.

But perhaps the biggest clue of all isnt lying in the song at all.

Ariana appeared to confirm the fan theory herself way before it had even been born when a Twitter user candidly asked what the song was about back in November.

a simple, beautiful love that is now (and forever) unattainable, the songstress simply replied.

And now were sobbing.

Last week, the God Is A Woman singer added that Imagine was a denial record, where Thank U, Next had been about acceptance.

A lot of this album mourns failed, yet important beautiful relationships in my life (as well as celebrates growth / exploring new independence), she shared.

But for those of you asking about imagine: I would say if thank u, next = acceptance… imagine = denial. Hope that makes sense.

kind of like… pretending it never ended. denial. but i look forward to you hearing it and having your own experience with it. you may take away something totally different and specific to your life! love u.

We wont lie, its a compelling argument – and one we kind of really hope is true.
