Ava DuVernay will be making a Prince documentary for Netflix – and we are so excited.
The news was announced by Variety but later confirmed by the legend herself on Twitter.
Taking to the social media site, the 46-year-old told her followers that she will indeed be taking on the project, and revealed that she was honoured for the opportunity.
Sharing a link to an article announcing the news, the director wrote: Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses.
She then added: The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. Im honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate.
Fans were quick to comment, and applauded Princes estate for trusting Ava with the documentary.

Full of praise, one wrote: As a huge Prince fan and someone who holds his music close to my heart I cant think of a single person Better suited to do this than you.
I know itll be crafted with love, admiration, and respect.
Someone else added: So happy Ava is doing this. Perfect person to take it on!

The project has the blessing of Princes estate, who are said to be providing interviews, archival footage, photos and archive access to the team.
Not only will the film look into the late artistss career, but it will also cover his childhood as well as the time leading up to his tragic death.
