Thibaut Courtois will push for a transfer to Real Madrid in the summer with talks over a new Chelsea contract having stalled, according to reports in Spain.
Antonio Conte has spoken openly of his desire for the Premier League champions to resolve Courtois’ future and convince him to sign an extension to his current deal which expires in the summer of 2019.
Chelsea reportedly willing to make the Belgium No.1 the best paid goalkeeper in the world with a deal that would see him earn more than Manchester United’s David de Gea but AS reports that the 25-year-old remains keen on a return to the Spanish capital.
Conte on Courtois
‘I can say Courtois is one of the best, maybe the best goalkeeper in the world
‘And he is a player very important for Chelsea. But the renewal of contract is a task for the club.
‘He knows very well my opinion and my thoughts about him. He will be the best in the world. Maybe he is now the best but, for sure, in the future for this goalkeeper [he will be the best].’
Courtois spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid from Chelsea and his ex-girlfriend, as well as their two children, still live in Madrid.
The goalkeeper’s representatives have held talks with Chelsea officials in recent weeks but significant progress is yet to have been made.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are reported to have made up their minds to upgrade their goalkeeping options come the summer with Keylor Navas likely to be sold and Athletico Bilbao’s Kepa set to replace current No.2 Kiko Casilla.
