Coronation Street has led the way in the Inside Soap Awards 2018 shortlist after a viewer vote saw them receive an impressive 18 nominations against 13 for Emmerdale, 12 for EastEnders and 9 for Hollyoaks. It certainly puts the show in a good position ahead of the official ceremony next week which will see the four programmes go head to head as the results are revealed.
In particular, Coronation Street has received several nods for the major storylines which saw Aidan Connor take his own life and villain Pat Phelan take his last stand but stars like Jack P Shepherd, Lucy Fallon and Catherine Tyldesley also stand to win key prizes in Best Actor and Best Actress categories.

That doesnt mean that they are without competition though. Danny Dyer has a number of nominations after a hectic year for the Carters while the EastEnders knife crime storyline also stands a chance of a few wins.

And Emmerdales Lachlan White saga, particularly the sudden death of Gerry, also scores some nominations for Emmerdale. And Hollyoaks could well have the shock value in its favour as specatacle and twist laden episodes centering around the school explosion and the returns and deaths and fake deaths of Sienna and Nico Blake.
