It’s one hell of a week for Coronation Street’s long suffering Fiz Brown. No sooner has she made the horrific discovery that Tyrone Dobbs slept with Gemma Winter than she is learning that is has been her daughter Hope, not Ruby, who has been behaving uncontrollably of late.
As Fiz reels from Tyrone’s betrayal and even ends up in a scrap with Gemma, she then finds Hope about to push Joseph down some stairs and she decides impulsively to keep the truth from Tyrone when he comes round and tells her that he has booked Ruby in for therapy.
Explaining the development, Jennie McAlpine told Metro.co.uk: ‘Well, the two storylines go side by side – this one with the kids and Tyrone sleeping with Gemma. Both are kind of heartbreaking.
‘When she finds out it is Hope it is after she has found out about the affair and so Fiz’s whole world falls apart in the space of about three days. They have both deceived each other – because when Fiz first comes back Tyrone tells her that Ruby has been behaving and not been doing anything, so Fiz thinks all is good.
She continued: ‘Then she finds out all these things have been happening, and then Fiz finds out it is Hope and not Ruby – but Tyrone has no idea.
‘Fiz keeps it a secret from Tyrone, which I think it is a bit of a bad move, she thinks about all the things she has said about Ruby – like that she needs to go and see someone and that there is something wrong with her – it’s awful but she doesn’t want to think that about her own child. That’s the truth of it.’
With both Tyrone and Fiz having kept secrets from one another, is their relationship doomed to failure? With Fiz struggling to forgive Tyrone’s infidelity, he may feel equally unable to move on from her allowing Ruby to take the flack from Hope’s behaviour.
There are certainly testing times ahead…
