Ever since the news leaked that Jim McDonald would return to Coronation Street with the news that his and Lizs daughter Katie had actually survived after being prematurely born, fans have been feverishly discussing it, debating whether the storyline is a huge autumn intrigue or a retcon too far.
And now the casting for Katie has been revealed as theatre star Hannah Ellis Ryan is taking on the role. The Australian actress will take on the role and will land in Weatherfield, turning Lizs life upside down. Years ago, Katie was prematurely born and Liz and Jim were told that she had passed away.
But a hospital mix up led to Katie being brought up overseas but now she has tracked down her real parents – and there will be major ramifications.
Revealed by The Sun, the casting appears to confirm the big storyline ahead for Jim and Liz and while some are outraged by the major twist, others are content to wait until it plays out on screen before offering judgement.

Katies arrival forms a major part of Jims return story as Charles Lawson is already back filming and after this stint, he will be back for a longer term stay, Metro.co.uk understands.
Speaking about the plot to Metro.co.uk, outgoing producer Kate Oates said: We have some amazing stuff with Jim McDonald. Hes going to be coming back with a lot of resentment because of what Steve did – from his point of view, he has been rotting in prison and no-one cares. We also played a story 18 months ago where it seemed like Steve might have inherited a genetic disease from his dad but no-one went to see Jim to ask if he was okay. We have a great story to play with that.
