It would be an understatement to say that Carla Connor (Alison King) has been through the wringer over the months since the death of Rana Habeeb in the Coronation Street factory collapse. Blamed for being a part of it, the grief and guilt overwhelmed her and triggered a psychosis disorder which gradually worsened.
It caused her to hear voices, see people who werent there and suffer extreme paranoia and as she went missing, her loved ones – particularly Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) – could see how damaged she was by her crippling mental health.
It culminated in an intense mental health episode which saw Carla at her worst as she tried to speak with Hayley, Aidan and Rana while Peter tried to coax her back to reality. In the wake of this, her long recovery process must start and doctors inform Peter that they have found an appropriate mental health unit for her to receive treatment – but its in Carlisle.
It doesnt take Peter long to decide that he wants to go to Carlisle with Carla and be by her side to help her through the difficult steps ahead and he makes it clear to Ken (William Roache) and Roy (David Neilson) that this is what he intends to do.

Along with Johnny (Richard Hawley), they see Peter off and Peter is touched when his supportive son Simon (Alex Bain) says he wants to go too. But as they head off for what is bound to be a long process, will they actually want to return to the Street once Carla feels more stable.
