Its all been changing over at Coronation Street as long running producer Kate Oates has stepped down for a role in prime time drama while Emmerdale chief Iain MacLeod has headed over to replace her.
Under Kates reign, Bethany Platt has had her biggest storylines including being trapped in a sex ring and becoming a lapdancer. And Lucy Fallon, who plays her, is deeply thankful for the opportunities she has been provided with.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, she enthused: I think obviously its really sad that Kates leaving, because we all really love Kate and shes done a lot for me since she started. Ive had the biggest storyline I probably could have ever had, so it is really sad.
But then again, its also really exciting that we get somebody new and somebody that might switch things up again. Maybe theyll make Bethany really happy! (Laughs.) You just dont know, its really exciting.

However, if Iain did suddenly give Bethany a chain of happy stories, would Lucy be happy with that?
She laughed: No, because I want to do the challenging and gritty storylines, rather than the happy ones, which is a bit sadistic! I like all of the gritty stuff. It makes it a bit more exciting and its more of a challenge.
And she wasnt holding back when it came to addressing the complaints that Corrie is getting too dark. She pondered and then replied: Personally I prefer watching the darker stuff anyway. All of the Corrie storylines we have done like the suicide, the grooming storyline, Davids rape storyline, they have been so well done and so amazing and raised so much awareness.
The phone lines for things went up 1700% and stuff like that. So in that respect I dont think they should stop doing the dark storylines and I think Corrie is really good at having them but characters like Sally and Tim keep the lightheartedness as well.
My opinion is, if you were watching something like the rape storyline or the grooming storyline or the suicide storyline or whatever and you think this is too uncomfortable, I cant watch this, I feel that says more about you. These things are raising awareness and people are actually sat at home who do know someone who took their own lives or do know someone who was raped and for those people it is so important that we do these stories on a platform like Corrie so we raise that awareness.
Someone sat in the comfort of their own home saying they found it uncomfortable I think is quite sad. We do it so well, the balance is really good. There has been quite a few dark stories in the past year but that doesnt always happen. There might be a period now where there are no dark storylines or controversial storylines. I think the balance is good as it is. I want them!

And if she keeps getting handed the big storylines, Lucy is planning to go nowhere.
She grinned: I really love playing Bethany and I love the character; she has just turned 18 so there are many things they can do now that they werent able to do before with the character. I just really like playing her and I think we would get on. Its a role I can play for years.
