Will John step into Caps role? (Picture: FilmMagic)

Last week John Cena dropped a massive hint he might be stepping into some sort of Captain America role, which sent his followers into a tizz – including, apparently, the creator of Deadpool.

While hed previously in the past admitted his social media was merely a place for him to drop random images, his images of BTS did end in him revealing he was an Army – so its not all that weird for Johns fans to think something might be happening between the wrestler and Marvel as he posted a shot of the Avengers iconic shield.

Especially seeing as Chris Evans turn as Cap is reportedly coming to a screeching halt in the next Avengers, out next year.

Now Deadpool co-creator, Robert Liefeld, has added some fuel to the flames as he posted a doctored shot of John as the super version of Steve Rogers.

And the people have a lot of thoughts.

The man who came up with the sassy comic book character, who is yet to inject himself into the MCU, as hes a part of the X-Men world, posted to Instagram this weekend with his own take on things.

So, is this really a thing? he wrote alongside the comical image. Rumors of @johncena as Cap huh? Those are big pecs to fill!

And, dear reader, they really are big pecs.

Fans on the whole were not picking up what he was putting down, though, as they disputed the notion John could ace the role of Cap.

One wrote: Please no. John Cena doesnt need to ruin the MCU.

Another added: Hell no… nope 0% rethink this one please!!!

A third said: This has high-key ruined my night.

Woah, dramatic guys – for all we know, the actor just wanted to have a little fun on his own channels?

We cant imagine an MCU newcomer will swoop in and take Caps shield, prying it from his (maybe) cold (potentially) dead hands, seeing as the Internet, and comics, seem to think Steves friends Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, who play Falcon and the Winter Soldier respectively, will step into the role.

Chris Evans, Captain America

That is, if Chris even leaves it – as while its been heavily hinted this is his last spin around the Avengers track and Evans himself seemed to give weight to the theory that Rogers will be killed off when he appeared to say goodbye to the franchise as reshoots ended on Twitter, it all remains to be seen.

Evans backtracked while at Comic Con in Chicago earlier this year on the whole palaver, telling the crowd: I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler. I should clarify that regardless of how Avengers 4 ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing.

That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry.

You feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought Id feel. And I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude.

I know it had a ripple effect but I am neither confirming nor denying anything.

More: Avengers

Still its no massive leap for a wrestler to enter the MCU, after Dave Batista was cast as Drax The Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

And did quite well from it.

Watch this space, we guess. Or at the very least enjoy the lols.

Avengers 4 is in cinemas 26 April, 2019.
